Full-Time ESL Program – 8 Levels
The American English Academy offers a comprehensive 8-level ESL (English as a Second Language) program designed to help students build fluency, accuracy, and confidence in English for academic, professional, and everyday communication.
Program Overview
Our full-time ESL course is structured into 8 progressive levels, from beginner to advanced. Each level is carefully crafted to meet the needs of learners at different stages of language acquisition, ensuring measurable improvement and a strong foundation in all key skill areas: Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Grammar, Vocabulary and Pronunciation.
Achievement scale and its interpretation
Level 1 (A1)
- Understand and use very basic expressions to satisfy immediate communication needs.
- Introduce themselves and others and ask/answer questions about personal details such as name, nationality, and everyday routines.
- Interact in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help.
- Gain confidence in basic communication through structured practice in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Levels 2 (A2)
- Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases to communicate simple needs.
- Introduce themselves and others, ask and answer questions about personal details such as where they live, people they know, and things they have.
- Interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
- Develop basic reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills to manage simple interactions and routine tasks.
Level 3 (A2+)
- Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
- Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
- Describe in simple terms aspects of their background, immediate environment, and matters in areas of immediate need.
- Use foundational grammar and vocabulary to build greater fluency, accuracy, and confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Level 4 (B1)
- Understand the main points of clear, standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, and leisure.
- Deal with most situations likely to arise while traveling in an area where the language is spoken.
- Produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
- Describe experiences, events, dreams, hopes, and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
Level 5 (B1+)
- Comprehend and respond to extended spoken and written texts on familiar and some unfamiliar topics.
- Express themselves clearly and in detail on a wide range of subjects related to their interests, work, and studies.
- Demonstrate increased control over grammatical structures and appropriate use of vocabulary.
- Communicate with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers possible.
Level 6 (B2)
- Understand the main ideas and specific details in complex spoken and written texts on concrete and abstract topics.
- Communicate with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes interaction with native speakers possible without strain.
- Produce clear, detailed oral and written texts on a wide range of subjects and explain viewpoints with reasons and supporting arguments.
- Use a broad range of grammar and vocabulary with good control and flexibility.
Level 7 (B2+)
- Understand and engage with extended spoken and written texts on a wide range of complex topics.
- Communicate spontaneously and effectively in diverse social, academic, and workplace situations.
- Develop well-structured, coherent arguments in speech and writing.
- Demonstrate nuanced use of grammar, vocabulary, and discourse strategies appropriate to context and purpose.
Level 8 (C1)
- Understand and interpret a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognize implicit meaning.
- Express themselves fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
- Use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic, and professional purposes.
- Produce well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organizational patterns and cohesive devices.
Program Details
- Duration: Each level is completed in 11 weeks
- Schedule: Full-time classes meet Monday through Thursday.
- Placement Test: New students take a placement test to determine their appropriate starting level.
- Progress Evaluation: Students are assessed through a midterm, a final, speaking and written tests to ensure they’re meeting learning objectives.
Outcomes
Upon completion of all 8 levels, students will be able to:
